Historical Fortress of Fahraj

Historical Fortress of Fahraj

The Historical Fortress of Fahraj, located outside the village’s historical core, was built along with a water cistern to serve as a temporary refuge for the lives and possessions of the local people in the event of an attack. As a result, this two-story fortress with numerous rooms was shared by all the villagers. The fortress features a three-story entrance and four round towers at the corners, dating back to the 9th and 10th centuries AH (Islamic calendar).

The Fahraj Fortress is one of the most prominent fortresses in Yazd province. It was constructed in the 3-tier design with double walls and is about 400 years old. Although the fortress is privately owned, nearly all the residents of the village have a share in it.
